Proverbs Challenge, Day 8

KeysIn the course of the Proverbs Challenge, we’re learning that wisdom is the understanding of how God created the universe to function. Today we learn that His design includes a plan for civil government.

For statesmen, that’s good news.

By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
(Proverbs 8:15)

For those politicians that serve illegitimate masters, not so good:

For my mouth will speak truth;
Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.
(Proverbs 8:7, 13)

Sometimes it seems like most of our politicians fall under the second category, and it can make us feel helpless to change it. But, you have to figure that God’s best plan includes godly leaders, and that His wisdom includes not only a way to establish but restore godly leadership.

Many people think that the US constitution is the most inspired document written by man. I certainly agree with that. So, let’s look at this verse…

By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
(Proverbs 8:15)

…from the perspective of that document, which states that We The People are sovereign in America. By law, the politicians serve us. So, God gives us wisdom for righteous government.

And, if We The People pray for wisdom to restore our country to lawful government, God will help us:

For whoever finds me finds life,
And obtains favor from the LORD
(Proverbs 8:35)
