The blessing of the LORD makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.
“I’m going to work hard, so the Lord will bless me and make me rich.”
You can support that sentiment with scripture. The Word encourages us to work diligently.
But that second line should be the measuring stick for whether we’re on the right path. Is there sorrow? Are my relationships suffering? Do I have too much stress? Is my health declining? Do I treat others with honor and compassion? Have I compromised my principles, or broken the law?
An opposite of sorrow is joy. Do you take joy in what you do? Do you have a healthy body, healthy relationships, and sleep well at night? If not, pray about your work. Let the Lord show you what to prioritize, what to minimize — and what to leave behind.
